sacred space

What are some ways that you nurture your soul, refresh your spirit or honor the holy in your life?

What we some times fail to realize is that to add one thing to our lives, we may have to give up another.  If you want to grow closer to God, you need to spend some intentional time with God.  What are you willing to give up in order to make this a reality?

In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus said:

Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (NRSV)

Or – same verse from the Message:

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. (MSG)

Living ‘freely and lightly’ can sound too good to be true. How can hectic and demanding schedules yield to the aching desire for ‘unforced rhythms of grace’? What is your desire to ‘recover your life’ if you’re plain old ‘burned out’?

What could a Sacred Space look like in your life? What time of day? Could this be every day?  Is there a space in your home you could make sacred for this holy time with your Creator?

Plan for your Sacred Space today. Make a promise to yourself to create this space and keep it sacred.  Consider starting with a period of quiet of about 15 minutes a day for one week.  At the end of the week, record in your calendar or journal how this time went for you.  Note any commitment you would like to make to continue offering this sacred space to yourself and to God for the next week or month.  Be encouraged – God is with you.
